Moss Beach is a coastal census-designated place in San Mateo County with a population of around 3,103 people as at the 2010 census. It was founded in the 1880s by German immigrant Juergen Wienke who saw the area as a vacation attraction and health spa for city dwellers in San Francisco.
Although it doesn't necessarily provide the sun-soaked beaches of Southern California, this coastal place does offer interesting scenery and wide-ranging marine life.
It is home to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve which was designated as a natural reserve for plants and animals who adapted to live at the edge of the ocean. This reserve sees 130,000 visitors each year. This point goes to show the attractive nature of this town.
The recent Real Estate trends in Moss Beach shows a decrease of $249,000 (-20%) in median home sales over the past year. However, the average price per square foot for this same period also rose to $843, up from $683 from the previous year.
